Brandywine Zoo

Brandywine Zoo is located at the Wilmington Park in Brandywine Park in Delaware. Placed alongside the Brandywine River, the zoo has more than one hundred and fifty animals and is open on all days of the year. You can adopt an animal at this zoo.

If you want to adopt any of the animals, Brandywine Zoo has that option for you. You might not take them home, yet you will sponsor their maintenance by providing funds to the zoo. The Delaware Zoological Society accepts these donations. Received funds are used for the welfare activities of your adopted animal or bird. The Zoo participates and facilitates conservation initiatives.

Endangered animals are given priority in these initiatives. Sponsorships help the Zoo to conduct such activities with so financial constraints. Adoption is open to anyone. The adopted can have more than one adoptee. The Brandywine Zoo has lots of animals. It will be a nice experience to visit the Zoo with family and friends. There is no greater pleasure than seeing exotic animals in front of your eyes.Mammals, birds, reptiles, and the like and different varieties of them are at display. You can also see Siberian Tigers. If you are a tiger lover, then the sight of Siberian Tigers will give you immense pleasure.

Recently the Zoo had a Valentine’s Day special event in the month of February. The Education Building hosted the world’s most least loveable animals show. A Zoo officer talked about such animals to an animal loving audience. Apart from this event there are other events too. You need to check with the Zoo to find out more about it.

Discovery Tours is another feature of the Zoo, that lets interested people an educational discourse and a tour of the Zoo. Discovery Tours will help understand the animals better. It will be indeed an exciting learning experience as you one gets to know the behavior and lifestyle of different animals.

Brandywine Zoo

Zoos are always a big hit with children of all ages, and The Brandywine Zoo in Wilmington, Delaware is no exception.

The original zoo, under the name Wilmington Zoo, was started in 1905 based on the suggestion and ideas of Dr. James H. Morgan.

The zoo features over 150 animals from a variety of species – mammals, reptiles, birds, and amphibians. If you fall in love with a specific animal, you can “A.D.O.P.T.”(Animals Depend on People Too) that animal. The sponsorship of an animal helps the zoo continue important conservation work. Though the animal you “adopt” remains at the zoo, you receive a certificate of adoption, and your name will be placed on the Honor Roll of Zoo Parents. Groups and individuals are encouraged to contribute to the valuable zoo programs and conservation efforts through the “A.D.O.P.T.” program at the Brandywine Zoo.

There are numerous planned learning activities available at the zoo, including summer camps, educational and family programs, as well as onsite adventures.

The zoo camps are offered for spring break, and during the summer, mini and full-day programs are available.

The educational programs include discovery tours, a traveling zoo, and teacher resources and loan kits. The loan kits include all the information and tools to teach a group about wild animals, their welfare, and even zoo careers.

The family programs offer age specific group activities, including adult.

On site adventures include story time, keeper watching, and Close Encounters of the Wild Kind. The Close Encounters change weekly and provide participants with Live Animal Presentations, Conservation Action Stations and Discovery Carts, all presented by knowledgeable zoo staff.

If the zoo does not have a program that fits your needs, the zoo staff will help you design your own program.

The Brandywine Zoo is a member of the American Zoo and Aquarium Association, and participates in the Species Survival Plan.
