Sports to Watch at the University of Delaware

While Delaware does not have a professional sports team there are plenty of amateur sports teams that can fill that sports void. In fact, The University of Delaware is home to over 23 different varsity sports. The University of Delaware also competes in the NCAA Division-1 division in the Colonial Athletic Association or the CAA. There is always a sporting event going on at any moment through the University of Delaware which allows Delaware residents the chance to see a wide number of sports in action. Here is a look at some of the most well known sports teams that The University of Delaware offers the public. All sporting events are open to the public.

 

Field Hockey. It might not be the traditional sporting event that people go to but field hockey is incredibly popular in the Delaware state. The University of Delaware’s women’s field hockey team took the CAA title in 2004 making them one of the top teams in the women’s field hockey niche.

 

Lacrosse. Lacrosse is another sport that most people would traditionally not attend. The University of Delaware is one of the top contenders in the men’s lacrosse sports arena. In 2007 the men’s lacrosse team was able to reach the final stages of the NCAA Final Four tournament in lacrosse. This was the first time that the University of Delaware was able to make it to the finals and it put them in one of the top spots for the event of lacrosse.

 

Football. Everyone looks for a good football team. Those choosing to support their own state and root for a Delaware team will have to settle with the NCAA men’s football team. In 2010 the men’s football team was able to achieve a CAA Championship win.

 

Volleyball. The University of Delaware set their name as one of the top women’ts volleyball teams by winning the CAA title in 2007.
